<image:caption>Series: Smoke and Cloud 2006-7 This series is modest in scale and materials: recycled cardboard, a tuft of white upholstery fluff and a small chunk of plywood as a shelf. These wall mounted sculptures portray large events, like the passage of a cloud across the CN Tower, or the effluence of smoke from a factory chimney. They capture transitory moments in time, transfixing the leakage of energy and the flow of vapour in a static object.     </image:caption>

The ship begins to spin, slowly at first, then more violently as the water gains momentum. As suddenly as it begins the bottle stops turning, while its contents continue to swirl silently out of control. The white sand settles, forming ripples on the bottom. The ship is almost at rest, then the motor turns on again, throwing the contents of the bottle into turmoil once more.    </image:caption>

<image:caption>Music Box 2013 Music Box is an absurd mechanical contraption that creates frenetic musical noise in joyful response to the surreal, carnival-like atmosphere of Nuit Blanche in Toronto. The initial inspiration came from the mad cacophony made by numerous marching bands as they gathered for the Santa-Claus Parade. Using simple mechanical interventions, sounds are coerced from an array of real instruments, powered by motors. On a parked flatbed trailer, the mechanism rides on a trolley that periodically disappears into a large box, the door slamming shut behind. Reminiscent of a cuckoo clock, Music Box creates child-like anticipation as one awaits its reappearance.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Space Probe 2014 A model, based on a Voyager space probe, travels slowly across a warehouse ceiling, encountering various celestial phenomena, cobbled together from banal materials (rubber bands, cat fur, upholstery stuffing, a board used on my drill press). The probe contains a miniature, live-feeding video camera that transmits the images back to a flat screen TV. Viewers wander back and forth between the sculptural installation and the video image at mission control. One of the 'phenomena" is a turn-table that is playing side 1 of Brian Eno's Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks, providing a suitably atmospheric and spacy, live-feed sound track.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Font - Font 2022</image:title>
<image:caption>Font 2022 The vortex is a phenomenon that occurs at a range of scales: water going down a drain, the swirling of a hurricane, the movement of stars around a black hole. It seems to be a fundamental structural form. A vortex can be destructive but is also transformative, the centre acting as a passage between two states. The dark character and associations of the black whirlpool in Font, and its unexpected presence within the baptismal font, contrasts and contradicts the idea of baptism, which one associates with purity, regeneration, and innocence. 98 x 98 x 105cm</image:caption>

<image:caption>Dumb Bell 2022 (originally part of Strange Fruit from 1993 ) This heavy, drop-shaped, fabric vessel hangs beneath the bell tower hatchway, vaguely imitating the church bell that is no longer there. It is mute, and has a solemn animal-like presence. It speaks of the body through its mass, the pull of gravity and its pure physicality. The bell tower room is old, dim and dusty, and feels forlorn and neglected, infusing this object with a sense of sadness and loss. 152 x 131 x 122m</image:caption>
